On the Spot' Essay Writing on Statistics


Thiruvananthapuram: Central Statistics Office (Social Statistics Division) under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation Government of India, West Block-8, Wing-6, R.K. Puram, New Delhi-110066,as part of the celebration of Statistics Day falling on 29th June, 2015, has announced an `On the Spot' Essay Writing Competition, for Post-Graduate students of Statistics, on subjects relevant to Statistics.

Interested Post Graduate Students of Statistics currently studying in recognized university/colleges are eligible to participate in the 'On-the-Spot' Essay Writing Competition- 2015.The Competition will be held on February, 2015 (Sunday) from 10 am to 1 pm and the last date for the receipt of applications will be 31st December, 2014 (Wednesday).

Two topics of essay would be given on the spot. The Essay should be written on one ofthe topics in about 5000 words in three hours. Each eligible candidate will be asked through a separate communication to come to the nearest Regional/Sub Regional Office or Sub Regional Office of National Sample Survey Office for writing the essay. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the competition. The list of the Regional/Sub Regional Offices may be seen in the Ministry's website

The candidates should submit their application (in duplicate) in the prescribed format which can be downloaded from the Ministry's website, through the Head of the Department of the College/ University/Institute and submit the same to the Director (Social Statistics Division), Central Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics &PI, West Block-8, Wing-6, R.K. Puram, New Delhi-110066 through ordinary/speed post. Nearest Regional Office or Sub Regional Office may be mentioned in the application form. However, the Ministry may allot a center other than the one opted by the candidate.

The essays will be evaluated by a Committee constituted by MoSPI on the basis of contents, originality of ideas, sequences of presentation and writing skills. A list of winners will be published on ministry's website. The winners will also be notified in writing.

The winners are given certificates along with cash prize with a First Prize of Rs 15,000/-; Second Prize (2 numbers) @ Rs. 12,000/- (each) and Third Prize (3 numbers) @ Rs. 10,000/- (each). Five Consolation prizes @ Rs. 5,000/- (each) will also be given.

The winners of the competition will be invited to a function to be organized in New Delhi, to receive the prizes. The winners coming to the place of function will be entitled to receive actual fares of their to and fro journey through shortest route by rail in AC-III tier. Stay arrangements at New Delhi will also be done by MoSPI.
