Fellowships for Ph.D in Criminology

Dec 25,2014: Bureau of Police Research & Development, Block No. 11, 3rd/4th Floor, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003 under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has invited applications from Indian Nationals for the award of 12 fellowships for Doctoral Work in Criminology and Police Science. The fellowships are for three years payable through the institution where the fellow is registered for Ph.D course work.
Applicant should have a Master’s Degree with not less than 55% marks for General Category and 50% for Reserve Category (SC/ST/OBC) in Criminology, Sociology, Social work, Psychology, Social Anthropology, Public Administration, Political Science, Law and Police Administration.
Preference shall be given to the NET/SET qualified candidates. Applicant should be registered for Ph.D programme with any of the recognized Indian university in any of the subjects mentioned above.
The fellowship is open to Indian nationals up to 28 years of age (General Category) and 33 years (Reserve Category) (SC/ST/OBC) as on the date of publication of Advertisement (it has come on 17th December 2014). Three years’ relaxation in age will be permissible to those possessing LL. M. degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground (s)shall not exceed five years under any circumstances.
Reservation for SC/ST/OBC will be as per Government of India rules. Copies of rules and prescribed application form for Fellowship Scheme in Criminology and Police Sciences will be available on request or can be downloaded from www.bprd.nic.in.
Application should be addressed to ‘The Director General, Bureau of Police Research & Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, Block No. 11,4th Floor, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003’.Applicants are required to send self-addressed unstamped envelope (28cms x 12cms) attached with the application. Closing date for receipt of applications will be 60 days from the date of publication of advertisement.
As per the terms and conditions of the fellowship for doctoral work available at http://www.bprd.nic.in/showfile.asp?lid=1281, the fellowship shall be disbursed on half yearly basis. The value of each Fellowship will be Rs 8,000/- per month for the first two years and Rs 9,000/- per month for the third year. The enhancement of fellowship for third year will be based on the evaluation of the work done by the research fellow, by the Supervisor and HOD. However, a committee consisting of Director (Research), Deputy Director (Research), and a member nominated by the DG, BPR&D shall also go through the progress of the research work for evaluation and recommend for continuation of the fellowship or otherwise. In casethe work for the first two years is not found satisfactory, enhanced fellowship shall not be given.
An yearly Contingency Grant of Rs 10,000/- shall be sanctioned to each fellow. As per UGC, it will be subjected to submission of original bills/ vouchers duly certified by the supervisor and forwarded through the office of the Registrar.
An yearly Departmental Assistance of Rs 3,000/-shall be paid to the department in which the fellow is registered for the Ph.D. for providing in frastructural facilities.
