Kochi: Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi, has invited applications for admission to various academic programmes of the University for the academic year 2016-17.  All admissions are based on online Common Admission Test (CAT) or online Lateral Entry Test (LET) or Departmental Admission Test (DAT) conducted by the University. 

Admission to MBA programme is based on C-MAT (AICTE)/MAT (AIMA)/ CAT (IIM) score, GD & Interview and for M.Tech, based on GATE score. Online test will be conducted at New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Jamshedpur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Ranchi, Varanasi, Kota, Dubai, and all district headquarters of Kerala. Online CAT for B.Tech Programmes (Civil, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Information Technology, Safety and Fire, Mechanical, Ship Technology, Instrumentation, Marine, Polymer Science & Engineering) and 5 year Integrated M.Sc. Photonics, M.A. Hindi, 5 year BBA LL.B.(Hons), B.Com LL.B(Hons.), M.A. Applied Economics, MCA (LET), M.sc. Computer Science with specialization in Soft Computing and Dual Degree programmes of MIP.Ph.D and LL.M(IPR).Ph.D will be held on 30.04.2016 (Saturday). 

Online CAT for all other PG programmes viz; LL.M., MCA, 3 year LLB, M.Sc. Chemistry, Biotechnology, Electronics Science, Environmental Technology, Hydrochemistry, Industrial Fisheries, Marine Biology, Marine Geology, Marine Geophysics, Mathematics, Meteorology, Oceanography, Physics, Statistics, Instrumentation, Biopolymer Science, M.F.Sc Sea Food Safety and Trade M.Voc Mobile Phone Application Development and M.Voc. Technology and Management Consulting etc and online LET for B.Tech. Programmes will be held on 01.05.2016 (Sunday).

In respect of DAT for M.Tech., M.Phil., Ph.D., and Diploma programmes, the dates will be announced later by the Departments concerned.

Eligibility
For admission to the BTech Computer Sci. & Engg, Electrical and Electronics Engg, Electronics &Comm. Engg., Information Tech, Civil Engineering., Mechanical Engg, B. Tech. in Polymer Science & Engineering, Safety & Fire Engineering and 5 Year Integrated M.Sc in Photonics, applicant should have a pass in the Plus Two Examination of the State of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together. 

For admission to the B.Tech Marine Engineering (Residential Programme), applicant should have a Pass in the Plus Two Examination of the State of Kerala or any other examinations accepted as equivalent thereto with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% marks and minimum 50% for Mathematics alone and should have passed English at 10th or 12th Standards with 50% marks (applicable to SC/ST candidates also). Vocational/Diploma students are not eligible to apply. Maximum age limit prescribed is 25 years as on 1st September of the year of admission. Physical & eye fitness certificate from a medical officer approved by the DG Shipping should be produced at the time of admission. This self-financing course consists of 8 semesters with one semester specifically for Afloat Training which is carried out in the ‘Ship in Campus’. Graduates of this course are given the document of CDC and INDoS number by the D.G.Shipping, after which they can sail on board Merchant ships as Junior Engineer Officer. The passed out students are eligible to obtain exemption of Part A of Competency Examination Class IV from DGS. The students are governed by separate rules regarding uniforms, hostel facilities, curricular and extra-curricular activities, training, discipline, attendance requirement besides a special fee structure. 50% reduction in tuition fee is provided for female students. 

For admission to B. Tech  Naval Architecture  & Ship Building, applicant should have passed Plus Two (10+2) examination conducted in Kerala or the examination of any other University/ Board accepted by the Syndicate of the University as equivalent thereto in First Class (60% marks) with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as subjects of study. The candidate shall have secured a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics as well as for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together. 15 seats reserved for Naval candidates. 

For admission to the B. Tech. in Polymer Science & Engineering and 5 Year Integrated M.Sc in Photonics, applicant should have a Pass in Plus Two examination of the State of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together. 

For admission to B. Tech. Instrumentation Technology, applicant should have passed the Plus Two examination of the State of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 55% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.  

For all Under Graduate Programmes (except Marine Engineering) the minimum eligibility for SEBC candidates of Kerala State with Non-Creamy Layer Status to be considered under reservation quota for admission to B. Tech is 45% for Mathematics and 45% for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together in the qualifying examination. SC/ST candidates are eligible for admission, if they have pass marks in the qualifying examination except for B.Tech Marine Engineering.

Of the total seats for B.Tech (Self-financing), 50% are State merit, 40% All India Merit and 10% are NRI All India Merit. The State merit seats are reserved only for Keralite students. For B.Tech in Naval Architecture and Ship Building, Instrumentation, Polymer Science Engineering, 5 Year  Integrated M.Sc in Photonics 10% of the seats are earmarked for students on All India basis (All India quota) and the remaining seats for the Keralites. State Merit seats will have a subsidized fee structure (See Course Fee).
 
50% concession in tuition fees will be granted to Physically Challenged candidates admitted against the seats reserved for Physically Challenged and have been approved by the medical board constituted for the purpose by the University and whose annual family income does not exceed Rs. 1.50 lakh.

All academic admissions are based on the merit of the applicants as determined through an admission test conducted for the purpose, subject to satisfying other prescribed eligibility criteria. Foreign nationals are exempted from the above requirement of writing the admission test. 

Students who have appeared or are appearing for the final year/semester examination may also apply for the Tests subject to the conditions specified in he Prospectus.

Exam pattern
Common Admission Test 2016 (CAT-2016) will be conducted in Online Mode only
For Common Admission Test, each correct answer will fetch 3 marks while each incorrect answer will result in loss of 1 mark. 
 
Applicants for M.B.A (Full-time) / M.B.A (Part-time), M.B.A (International Business), M.B.A. (Travel & Tourism) will be short-listed on the basis of their scores in C-MAT (AICTE ) / MAT (AIMA)/ CAT(IIM) and will be required to attend Group Discussion and Interview.
 
Applicants for M. Sc Industrial Fisheries will be short-listed on the basis of their CAT score and will be required to attend interview.
 
Rank lists for M.B.A (Full-time) / (Part-time), M.B.A (I.B.) M.B.A. (T.T.) are prepared on the combined basis of the C-MAT score (AICTE) / MAT Score (AIMA)/ CAT(IIM)  score and performance at Group Discussion and Interview as indicated below. 
 
M.Sc. Industrial Fisheries: Rank list for M.Sc Industrial Fisheries is prepared on the combined basis of the CAT score and performance in the Interview.

For all other programmes the marks secured at the Common Admission Test in the subject that qualifies the candidate for admission to the programme alone will be considered for preparing the Rank list.  

In the Test for First Degree programmes in Engg. & Technology, the test comprises of 250 objective type multiple choice questions based on Plus Two syllabus. Of this, 125 questions will be from Mathematics and 125 questions will be from Physics and Chemistry with physics to chemistry ratio maintained at 3:2. The duration of the test will be three hours and the maximum marks will be 750. The admission to following courses is based on the score in this test. 5-year  Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics, B. Tech. course in Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Safety & Fire Engineering, B Tech course in Marine Engineering, B. Tech. course in   Instrumentation Technology, B. Tech. Naval Architecture & Ship Building and B. Tech. Polymer Science & Engineering. Candidates, appearing for Test  should have scored a minimum of ten marks for mathematics and 10 marks for physics and chemistry put together to be eligible to figure in the respective rank list. This requirement of minimum marks, however, will not be applicable for candidates coming under SC/ST communities.

Test for Lateral Entry to III Semester B.Tech Programme (LET): 
The Lateral Entry Test for admission to III Semester of the B. Tech course comprises 200 objective type questions designed to test the proficiency in English (20 questions), Mathematics (50 questions), Engineering Mechanics (40 questions), Engineering Graphics (40 questions) and General Engineering (50 questions).  The test shall be of 3 hours duration and the maximum marks will be 600.
 
Aptitude Test for B.B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) / B. Com.,LL.B.(Hons.): The Test for B.B.A., LL.B.(Hons.) / B.Com.,LL.B (Hons.) comprises 150 objective type questions designed to test the proficiency in General English (50 questions) Ability in Reasoning and Logical Thinking (50 questions) proficiency in General Knowledge and Current affairs (25 questions) and in Law Related Matters (25 questions).  The maximum marks will be 450.  The candidate will have option to select either of the five year courses on the basis of their ranks.

Applicants for B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)  / B.Com.,LL.B (Hons.) irrespective of whether or not they are applicants for any other programme, have to necessarily take the Test  201. The details of the other tests are also given in the website.

How to apply
All those applying for Common Admission Test 2015 (CAT 2015) should submit their applications on-line. International candidates and those applying for the Lateral Entry Programmes/ MBA/ MTech programme should also submit their applications on-line. Candidates for PhD/ M Phil/ MA Translation-German & Russian / Diploma/PG Diploma/Certificate programmes need not submit online application form. They can obtain the printed application from the concerned Departments either directly or through post by paying the required application fee through Demand Draft, drawn in favour of ‘Registrar, CUSAT’, payable at Ernakulam.
Application fee General Category Candidates for all courses (other than Post-Doctoral/Diploma/Certificate Programmes) is Rs.1000/-. It is Rs.500/- for SC/ST Category Candidates. For those applying under the NRI Quota, it is Rs.6000/-. Those opting test centers at Dubai should pay an amount of Rs 10000/- in addition to the above fee. In case of Post-Doctoral/Diploma/Certificate Programmes, application fee is Rs.100/- for General Category Candidates and Rs.50/- for SC/ST Category Candidates. Application fee for international students for For all coursesis US$100. 

Those who wish to apply for more than one programme need to submit only one application. However, those having both Plus-Two and three year Diploma qualifications and intending to apply for both regular  B Tech programmes and Lateral Entry to B Tech Programmes are required to submit separate applications by remitting the fees specified which is Rs.2000/- (Rs.1000/-+Rs.1000/)- for General candidates and Rs.1000/- (Rs.500/-+Rs.500/-) for Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe candidates.

Fee can be paid in two modes. In the chalan payment mode, applicant must choose the bank first and then take printout of the chalan form along with the instructions page. The payment can be made in the bank after two working days from the date of registration. It should be ensured that the journal number is correctly entered by the bank in the space provided in the chalan form. 

Payment can also be made from any Internet Banking enabled SBI/SBT A/C. Applicant should login to the internet banking account and select ‘Third Party Transfer’ on the left side, select and click ‘GO’. Applicant should choose ‘Power Jyothi Fee Collection (PUL)’ and enter the fee type as printed in the chalan and then click ‘Submit’ button. In the ‘Validation Date’ box, date of birth as printed in the chalan has to be entered. In the ‘Fee Reference No’ box, registration no as printed in the chalan has to be entered. Applicant should click on ‘confirm’ button to complete the transaction. The transaction details may be noted down for future reference.

The online application submission is a two-stage process. In the first stage the candidate should submit a few basic details such as Name, Date of Birth, email-id, mobile phone no, etc correctly so as to get their user-id and password by SMS/email. In the second stage the candidate should login using this user-id and password. Immediately applicant will be asked to change the password. All other details required in the online registration form are to be submitted. Recent passport size (color) photograph (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm with the file size between 4 KB and 100 KB) and signature (3.5 cm x 1.5 cm with file size between 1 KB and 30 KB) have to be up0loaded. Once the application is confirmed by pressing the CONFIRM button, no further changes are possible. 

Applicants are not required to send any document in original or copy to the University, unless otherwise specifically requested for. Applicant should check his/her application status after two working days from the date of payment of fee. If the application is approved, he/she should take printout of the application confirmation page from the website.

Applicant should logout after completing the registration process. Candidates should retain minimum 3 copies of the Confirmation Page and the counterfoil of the fee chalan/e-payment receipt for their reference.

If the application submitted by the candidate is not approved within the time, the candidate should take necessary action as indicated in the status page. Candidates for MBA/M.Tech programmes who are awaiting results of CMAT/ MAT/CAT (IIM) or GATE can apply online during the extended period also ie from 31-03-2015 to 15-04-2015.

The candidates should download the admit card for the Common Admission Test from the website (http://cusat.nic.in) w.e.f. 20-04-2015 to 03-05-2015. Admit cards will not be sent to the candidate's address by post. Candidates must retain the Admit Card till the admission process is over. 

Eligibility criteria for each programme are given in the prospectus.  The responsibility for ensuring satisfactory compliance to the prescribed criteria is vested solely with the applicant. Claims found untenable upon subsequent scrutiny shall result in summary disqualification of the applicant concerned and cancellation of any or all admission processes undergone.

Kindly note that once you give your present educational qualifications you will be shown all the programmes for which you are eligible to apply. You can add as many programmes as you wish to apply to the box on the right side of the form. You can also remove the selected courses, if you wish.

The choice of the Test Subject/Test Centre is the responsibility of the applicant alone and the selections once exercised in the Online Application Form shall be final and irrevocable. Even if a candidate takes the CAT according to a subject of his/her choice, but otherwise does not satisfy the conditions of eligibility prescribed in the Notification/Prospectus, he/she will not be considered for admission.

The registration number should be quoted in all   communications with the University.
Claims/Requests for benefits under any reservations (Communal Reservation/ Special Reservations etc.) other than what is indicated by the candidate in the CAT 2015 online application, will not be considered at the time of counselling/admission.
 
The University reserves the right to add, delete or amend any of the stipulations regarding the reservation criteria, eligibility, intake, specialization, type of programmes, rules, regulations, fee structure etc. at any time without any notice and this will be binding on the candidates seeking admission.

Remember, the registration number, date of birth, email-id, mobile phone no, user-id, password etc are vital information to be kept confidentially by the candidate for future use.

Candidates are advised to be in touch with news/events on the university website (http://www.cusat.nic.in) and candidate home page regularly for latest updates and general information.  Specific communications, if any, will be through the given email-id or through the given mobile phone number only. Therefore, the correctness of email-id and mobile phone number should be ensured before final submission.  As far as possible, provide the candidate’s own email-id and mobile phone number. Keep a print-out of instructions for "How to Fill up the On-line Application Form" with you before proceeding further.
