MBBS at St John’s: Apply by April 30

 
Kochi: St. John’s Medical College Bangalore - 560 034 under the St. John’s National Academy of Health sciences, and affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore has invited applications for admission to the M.B.B.S. Course for 2016-17.

Eligibility
Applicant should have passed two year Pre-University examination conducted by Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka State or any other examination conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate examination established by State Governments / Central Government and recognised as equivalent to the two year Pre University examination by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences / Association of Indian Universities (AIU), or the Intermediate examination in Science of an Indian University / Board / Council or other recognised examining bodies with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually also.  
 
Those who have passed first year of the three year degree course of a recognised University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in these subjects provided the examination is an ‘University Examination’ after passing in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually in the pre university or other examinations mentioned above, those who have passed B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University, provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc. examination with not less than two of the subjects, Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology) provided the candidate has passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually in the qualifying examinations mentioned herein are also eligible to apply.

Applicant must have passed individually in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and must have obtained not less than 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together at the qualifying examination and in addition must have come in the merit list prepared as a result of such competitive entrance examination by securing not less than 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in the competitive examination. In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Category I, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in qualifying examination and competitive entrance examination be not less than 40%.  

The candidate should have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December, 2016.

Those who have made more than two attempts to pass the Two year PUC or Equivalent Examination, those who have not passed in English and obtained 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology in aggregate in the 2 year PUC or Equivalent Examination (For SC & ST of Karnataka State only 40%), Religious sisters who have not completed one year of community life after their first Profession, i.e., as on the day of commencement of class etc are not eligible to apply.

Selection process
A total of 150 Students will be admitted in August/September 2016 to the 1st MBBS Course.  

There will be a two stage selection process. Stage I consists 0f an All India Computer Based Entrance Test to be conducted in multiple centres across the country on 22-05-2016 which will consist of multiple choice questions in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Stage 2 is the interview, for a certain number of candidates to be shortlisted category-wise, based on entrance test score. Interviews will be conducted in two batches. Interview will assess the candidate’s aptitude, values, proficiency in English and, for community quota students, Catholic teachings. Final selection of the candidates in the designated categories will be based on inter se MERIT, which will be the cumulative score obtained in the Entrance Test (80%) and the Interview (20%).

There are a total of 150 seats for MBBS of which, 30 are All India open merit-seats. There are 10 seats under Institutional staff quota. In Community quota (Roman Catholics), there are 108 seats (Of these, 20 seats are reserved for religious sisters, and 30 seats are reserved for socially and economically backward classes), There is one seat for Govt. of India (Nominee) and 1 seat for Differently abled. Out of total candidates selected, at least 50% will be women, and 33% of Karnataka domicile. Selection will be on merit basis within the designated categories. No seats are reserved for students of foreign nationality. Their applications will be considered only after they have obtained necessary permission from the Government of India (The Secretary, Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family welfare, Nirman Bhavan, New Delhi-110011). They will have to obtain certificate of academic eligibility from the Rajiv Gandhi university of Health sciences and must have a student visa. 

How to apply
Application forms can be submitted online at http://admissions.stjohns.in till 11:59 pm on 30th April 2016

Application Fee is Rs. 2,000/- for Indians. For NRI’s& Foreigners, it is Rs. 7,500/-. The application fee can be paid online using a Credit Card, Debit Card or using Net Banking. Applicant should ensure that he/she gets a confirmation for the amount paid online. This will be provided online once the transaction has been successfully completed. 

Applicant should keep a softcopy of his/her recent passport photograph and a scanned softcopy of the signature ready before filling the application form, as per the specifications given in the Prospectus that can be downloaded from the website. Applicant should have a valid E-mail ID and Mobile Number for submission of the online Application. This E-Mail and Mobile number should be active till the declaration of results as important information with regard to the application and examination will be sent to the applicant, on this registered E-Mail/Mobile number. 

Candidates are first required to go to the website http://admissions.stjohns.in and click on Online Application Link under the MBBS tab. A first time user will have to first register by clicking on the link provided for registration. Applicant should fill up the registration form with required information. Once the above information is submitted, applicant will receive a St.John’s Medical College Entrance Test (SJMCET) user id number and a Password to the registered Email ID by email and/or to the registered mobile number by SMS. This may be noted and quoted for any enquiry that one may have and when communicating to the institute in any further correspondences. 

Applicant should then login by entering the registered SJMCET User ID number and password, and fill the online application form ensuring that the information provided is accurate. Before submitting, applicant may check the details for completeness and correctness. Applicant has to upload his/her latest photograph and signature and also make the payment using any one of the methods provided. There is no need to send any applications forms by Post or Courier. 

Hall Tickets will be available for download at http://admissions.stjohns.in from May 9th, 2016 till 5.00 pm on May 21st, 2016. The Computer based Test (CBT) will be held on 22nd May 2016 (Sunday) at Vijaywada, Vishakapatnam, Guwahati, Delhi NCR, Ranchi, Bengaluru, Mangalore, Ernakulam, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Mumbai, Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkatta, Durgapur, Patna, Lucknow, and Bhopal. The final list of centre will be decided on the basis of the number of candidates who opt for these centres. 

The Entrance Examination will commence at 9.30 a.m. and the duration of paper is 3 hrs. No candidates will be allowed to enter the Hall after 8.45 a.m. The Examination will consist of multiple choice questions in Physics, Chemistry, Biology. Questions will be on objective type, designed to test knowledge, understanding and application. The topics based on which, questions will be asked is given in the Prospectus. Applicants may refer to the admission website http://admissions.stjohns.in for a Mock Test. 

Announcement of 1st Interview List will be made on 20.06.2016. The candidates called for interview should confirm their attendance with the Registrar. Interview for the 1st list Candidates will be from 04.07.2016 to 07.07.2016. Announcement of 2nd Interview List will be made on 12.07.2016 and the Interview will be from 25.07.2016 to 30.07.2016. After completion of interviews, results of the final selection will be put up on Website, Notice Boards in the College, Admission Office & Hospital on 03.08.2016. Admissions will be from 08.08.2016 to 12.08.2016 and the Classes Begin on 22.08.2016. The admission will be subject to test for physical fitness which will be conducted by a Medical Board of the College.
