Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan

Students aspiring for MBBS and BDS seats after appearing National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-NEET are in a dilemma regarding the admission process. This year 50 percent of the seats under Government quota will be filled through KEAM conducted by Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Kerala. But allotment in self-financing, deemed and private medical and dental colleges will be through NEET rank list. As a sequel to the decision of Government to conduct Centralized allotment process from NEET for the entire seats under Merit, Management and NRI quota, Medical managements were not in a position to accept the decision. They are trying for series of litigations. This will affect the students’ aspiring for Medical and Dental seats in Kerala. Counselling process for MBBS and BDS across the country will be completed by 10th September 2016. Consortium of Medical, Dental colleges of Karnataka and all the other medical colleges of Karnataka will complete the process within the stipulated period. So students from Kerala compelled to join in these colleges after paying higher fees. Moreover if the counselling process in the State delays further, medical and Dental management will not refund the fee paid by the students after their final round of counselling. This will make bright students from the State to pursue education in other states after paying higher fees. Compared to other professional courses, number of seats for medical courses is less. So students after repeated attempt try to get better scores in entrance examinations. Moreover many of the parents cannot afford to pay higher fee rates charged by Medical colleges from nearby states. Parents and students are already worried for the growing apprehension regarding admission process and increasing fee structure and are waiting for an early student friendly decision in this regard. Moreover admission for all the under graduate courses except Medical and dental courses completed in the country.
