IIIC to offer Skill Development programmmmes


At a time when skill development is emerging across the globe, State Government is launching Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction at Chavara in Kollam district to offer customised skill development programmes. Chief Minister of Kerala Sri. Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the institute on 23rd July at 10 AM and Minister for Labour, Govt of Kerala Sri.T.P.Ramakrishnan will preside over the function. Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC) is coming under Kerala Academy for SkillsExcellence (KASE) of Department of labour, Govt of Kerala. KASE identified 93 year old Co-operative, Uralungal labour Contract Co-operative Society ULCCS Ltd working in the areas of construction, infrastructure, IT, ITeS, Hospitality, Tourism, education and skill development as the skilling and business partner and signed MOU with ULCCS Ltd for running the institute. IIIC is spread over 9 acres of land with 1.86 lakh sq. feet area has 38 class rooms, hostels, canteen, Wi-Fi support and all the facilities required for a modern educational campus. ULCCS will facilitate to position IIIC so as an institute to offer courses at the International standards; Says Sri.Remeshan Paleri, Chairman, ULCCS Ltd.

IIIC will offer 38 skill development courses at Technician, supervisory and managerial levels for those who completed SSLC, Plus2/ITI/Diploma and degree or B.Tech programmes respectively. During the first phase IIIC is offering courses which include three technician level courses like painting, bar bending and steel fixing and housekeeping courses of up to 6 months duration. Supervisory courses including advanced diploma in plumbing engineering and managerial courses include Post graduate Diploma in urban planning & Infrastructure, Construction management and Graduate ship programme for engineering graduates. All these courses offer minimum 60 percent placements. IIIC will facilitate opportunities for 100 percent placement. Advantages of IIIC courses include Cutting edge technology, advanced curriculum, facilities for on job training, industry interface and placements. Institute will offer graduate ship programme for all engineering graduates to improve their employability. Both technical and soft skill development programmes with appropriate industry interface will be promoted at the institute.  IIIC will sign MOU with pioneering educational and skilling institutions and Universities within the country and abroad for knowledge transfer, student exchange, faculty training, placement, curriculum development, etc. Says Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan, Education and Career Consultant and Director of UL Education. Some of the proposed collaborating institutions include   National Academy of Construction, Hyderabad, Glasgow Kelvin College, UK, University West of Scotland, British Council, Cambridge English, Confederation of Indian Industry, CREDAI, QMA, etc. Students can apply for customised courses through online from the website
